■  Support for International Academic cooperation

This program was established for a better understanding of the current research trends abroad. The grants support international joint studies and other types of academic cooperation for the purpose of enhancing the international competitiveness of Korean scholars by helping them obtain feedback from their overseas colleagues.

1) Grants for Visiting Scholars

These grants support visiting professors and researchers from overseas to introduce advanced knowledge and technology from other countries. Those selected are provided with airfare and living expenses during their six-month to one-year stay.

2) Grants for International Joint Studies and Scholar Exchange Programs

These grants support international academic collaboration for the establishment of cooperative relations with prominent research institutions in China, Germany, and Australia. The selection focuses on collaborative research, conferences, and exchanges of updated information with advanced foreign institutions and researchers. CASS, DFG, DAAD, and ARC are currently participating in the exchange programs.

■ Collaborative Research

KOSEF provides grants for bilateral collaborative research projects through mutual discussion with counterpart organizations. Eligible domestic applicants are full-time lecturers or above in science and engineering colleges and universities.

■ Invitation to Foreign Scientists

KOSEF also supports international joing seminars in area of mutual interests of the counterpart organizations. The host organization bears the direct costs of holding the seminars and pays a living allowance to guest scientists. The counterpart organization bears the cost of round-trip airface for guest scientists attending seminars.

■ Joint Seminar

KOSEF also supports international joing seminars in area of mutual interests of the counterpart organizations. ■ Exchange of Scientists

It is also possible for scientists to obtain support when they wish to exchange short-term visits for collaborative research. KOSEF provides financial support to the scientists in accordance with memoranda of understanding with counterpart organizations.

■ Post-Doctoral Fellowships for Foreign Researchers

The Post-doctoral Fellowships Program for Foreign Researchers is designed to provide promising young foreign researchers with opportunities to improve their knowledge and experience in fields of science and technology, while also conducting research activities in Korean universities and research laboratories. Under the program, the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation(KOSEF) grants fellowships to foreign researchers to carry out work/research as staff members in an approved work program relevant to the field of his/her specialization under Korean advisors.

Pusan National University

■  The Office of International Affairs

The Office of International Affairs at Pusan National University plays a key role with regard to PNU's international activities including making the academic exchange agreements with foreign universities, exchanging faculties and students, inviting foreigners and supporting their visits, and supporting international academic activities. 

■  Dormitories for Foreign Professors

There are two types of accommodation for foreign professors: Foreign Professors Apartment and Sang Nam International House. Visiting professors on faculty exchange programs can choose to live either in the apartment or in a room at Sang Nam International House when available. 

The Foreign Professors Apartment Building currently has 12 one-bedroom apartments and 4 two bed-room apartments. Each room is furnished with a refrigerator, cooking facilities, sofa and a telephone. Residents are responsible for paying utility fees for telephone, gas and electricity. 

The Sang Nam International House is hotel-type convention center with large conference halls, seminar rooms, and lodging rooms. The House has rooms with twin beds, a double bed, Korean traditional style room and self-catering suites. The suites come with kitchen and dining facilities, along with a comfortable living room for relaxing. Other features include electrical outlet for personal computer and internet use, refrigerator and cable television. 

■  Dormitories for Foreign Students

Mirinae Hall, Pusan National University's dormitory for international students and researchers, can accommodate up to 80 students, and it will be provided on "the first come and the first served". Dorm rooms are western-style, and each room is for double occupancy with twin beds. The dormitory has refrigerators and washing machines for student use, and Internet service is provided in each room.

■  Language Education Center

The Korean Language School at the Language Education Center at Pusan National University offers regular and special Korean language instruction for international people who need to learn and improve their Korean for their personal goals.
